Hunter Insurance Owner Profiles
Dan Hunter has been an insurance agent since 1979. He literally grew up in the business, his parents Howard and Joy having started the Hunter Agency in 1962. While in kindergarten, Dan spent mornings at Ella Canavan School and afternoons at the office. (He really did!) Dan graduated from Medina High School in 1975 and from The College of Wooster in 1979 (BA in English). One week after his college commencement, he joined Hunter Insurance Agency as a full-time licensed agent. He earned his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation in 1995 and became agency president in 2012.
Outside of the office, Dan enjoys playing guitar, reading, dabbling in creative writing projects and following the Cleveland Guardians. Dan and wife Ellen have two grown children, Evan and Leah, and are long-time active members of United Church of Christ, Congregational in Medina.
Ellen Hunter grew up in the borough of Eddystone, just outside of Philadelphia, PA. Ellen was valedictorian of Ridley High School’s Class of 1977 and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from The College of Wooster in 1981 (BA in German). Five days following her college graduation, she and Dan were married. After some years working in Wooster’s Department of Admissions, Ellen became a busy mom and a dedicated community volunteer. During much of this period, she also worked part-time in Medina schools and at Hunter Insurance. In 2011, she joined the agency staff full-time, became a licensed agent, and now directs agency operations.
Ellen is a 2013 graduate of Leadership Medina County and serves on the boards of the Medina Hospital Foundation and the Medina Summer Reinforcement Program. Ellen is a past president of the Medina County Women’s Endowment Fund from which she was honored with the 2021 Philanthropist’s Award. Ellen is also a recipient of the Medina Jaycees Distinguished Service Award and was named as a Medina City Teachers Association Friend of Education and a YWCA Woman of Distinction.
